In this housing project, several aspects were important to build up the form. Our aim was to achieve the maximum possible site density of the original area. We chose to develop a 3-storey building, by adapting to the surrounding buildings. The prevention from the acoustic noise and the search for creating spaces with different characters – more intimate and calmer – led to the position of the building on the site. Furthermore it reacts to the situation of the neighboring houses in the South. The z-form derives from protecting the huge trees and the intention to offer the best possible light situation for the inhabitants. The shape of the building carries the less possible shading of the building itself, compared to a fragmented structure, where the different parts cover up each other and abolish the view. The site also includes a huge green area, with private gardens and a children’s playground. The exterior contains parking for bicycles and cars of visitors, a waste collection place and the gateway for the underground parking, as well as the access for the fire fighters.
The building consists of 3 different types of apartments, which are mixed up all over the storeys. The sizes of the flats range from 45,2m² to 85,13m². The chosen structure also allows a perfect reduction of the site density from 0.6 to 0.4, by just leaving out the top level, or to 0.36, by just building the eastern part of the house. It is an option to build it in two phases. So even while reducing the volume, the mixed flat sizes remain. Knowing that the functionality is of primary importance, the structure keeps the opportunity to use common furniture upright, but nevertheless creates extraordinary room experience and exciting city planning.
